Suissa Miller Picks Up Packard Bell
LOS ANGELES–Personal computer maker Packard Bell NEC is in final contract negotiations to hire Suissa Miller, Los Angeles, as its agency, following a review of undisclosed West Coast shops, a company executive confirmed last week. M&C Saatchi, New York, previously handled the business, but the account has been inactive for about a year. Suissa Miller will develop one or more campaigns for Packard Bell’s consumer products in the second half of the year, said Mal Ransom, senior vice president of marketing for consumer products at the Sacramento, Calif.-based client. Billings are more than $10 million, according to industry estimates.
A&L Lands $15 Million Computec Media
SAN FRANCISCO–Anderson & Lembke here has been awarded the $15 million ad account of Computec Media U.S.A., following a review that included several undisclosed shops. The German media company, which has offices in the Bay Area, is a publisher of computer and video game editorial work, including magazines, Web sites and CD-ROMs. A&L will launch an integrated campaign later this year to promote some of Computec’s new North American publications.
Polaroid Ad Push Breaks ‘Right Now’
BOSTON–Polaroid’s latest consumer ad effort from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, introduces the tagline “Right now” to stress the immediacy of instant photos. It was unclear if the long-used “See what develops” line has been retired. Goodby referred queries to Polaroid officials, who could not be reached.
GSD&M Wins DreamWorks Media
DALLAS–GSD&M, Austin, Texas was selected over Santa Monica, Calif.-based Focus Media for the estimated $100 million media placement and planning work for DreamWorks SKG, Universal City, Calif., according to the agency. The eight-month review, which included multiple projects for both shops, was decided last week, shortly after GSD&M won buying on the DreamWorks movie Forces of Nature. Initial assignments will only be for DreamWorks’ theatrical releases.

Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, has been awarded the estimated $15-20 million Sonicare toothbrush creative and media planning account from Optiva Corp., Bellevue, Wash., following a review that included TBWA/Chiat/Day, San Francisco, and one undisclosed West Coast agency. Media buying remains with CPM Media Management. The account was previously handled by Goldberg Moser O’Neill, San Francisco. Optiva and GMO parted ways earlier this year. … Auto Choice, a used car retailer in Oak Grove, Calif., has been contacting San Francisco-area shops regarding the launch of its Web site, Billings are undisclosed. The Cerritos Auto Square in Cerritos, Calif., is conducting a review for its estimated $2-3 million account, according to sources.
