Hardee’s Whittles Contenders List to 8
LOS ANGELES–Hardee’s Food Systems has narrowed the field in the review for a creative agency to handle its $80 million account to eight semifinalists, including Team One Advertising in El Segundo, Calif., which is temporarily handling the client’s creative duties. Jim Bishoff, a partner at Los Angeles-based consultancy Strategics, would not comment on the other contenders, which sources said include New York shops Angotti, Thomas, Hedge; Earle Palmer Brown; and Publicis/Bloom.
Nonroster Shop Surfaces in PepsiCo Review
NEW YORK–Grey Advertising here has emerged as a contender in the pitch for PepsiCo’s consolidated
$170 million U.S. media planning and buying account. The business is currently split among roster shops BBDO, New York, TN Media, Chicago, and DDB Needham, Dallas, which are also participating in the review.
JWT Wins $70 Mil. Dell Global Account
CHICAGO–Dell Computer Corp. in Austin, Texas, has awarded its $70 million global branding account to J. Walter Thompson here. Dell officials declined to identify other contenders. Sources said they include Young & Rubicam in New York and Goldberg Moser O’Neill in San Francisco, which Dell said will continue to handle its $60 million U.S. product account.
JWT N.Y. Loses Co-Creative Director
NEW YORK–Tod Seisser, co-creative director of J. Walter Thompson here, resigned last week. According to sources, he is currently considering other opportunities. Seisser did not return calls seeking comment. Chris Jones, chief executive officer of JWT Worldwide, said there are no plans to replace Seisser at this time. Seisser joined JWT in May from Ammirati Puris Lintas, New York, to partner with J.J. Jordan. His departure follows the resignation of worldwide creative director Helayne Spivak in November.
Shoney’s Selects Italia/Gal
ATLANTA–Shoney’s Restaurants in Nashville, Tenn., has awarded its $26 million account to the Los Angeles office of Italia/Gal Advertising. The other finalists included McKinney & Silver in Raleigh, N.C., and Partners & Shevack in New York. Incumbent Bernstein-Rein in Kansas City, Mo., withdrew two weeks ago.
Nordstrom Trims Agency Field
LOS ANGELES–Nordstrom has narrowed the list of contenders for a national branding assignment to 8-10 agencies, sources said. They include: D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Los Angeles; TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif.; Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG, New York; Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis; The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va., Citron Haligman Bedecarrƒ, San Francisco; Bates USA, New York and Irvine, Calif.; and The Richards Group, Dallas. Executives at those agencies declined comment.
