BBDO Chicago Wins Beefeater, Potato Reviews
DETROIT–Allied Domecq awarded creative duties on its $5-10 million Beefeater gin account to BBDO Chicago after a review that also included Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, and New York shops Bates USA, Cliff Freeman and Partners, DeVito/Verdi, Lois/EJL and Weiss Stagliano Partners. Mezzina/Brown, New York, resigned the account. Zenith Media, New York, handles Allied’s buying. Separately, the National Potato Board in Denver assigned BBDO Chicago its $5-7 million account. The review also included McCann-Erickson, San Francisco, and Noble & Associates, Chicago. Ketchum in San Francisco resigned the business earlier this year when that agency was absorbed by TBWA/Chiat/Day.
Midas Moves Media to Carat
CHICAGO–Midas here shifted media buying duties for its $45 million account to Carat in New York, which succeeds TN Media here. Earlier in the week, creative duties were handed to Euro RSCG Tatham, Chicago, succeeding TN Media sister agency Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago, which resigned (see story on page 4).
BellSouth Calling After Barkley Resignation
NEW YORK–BellSouth Wireless Data, Woodbridge, N.J., is talking to four shops in New York and New Jersey about handling creative and media planning for its $3 million ad account, said Linda Everk, vice president of corporate communications. The client offers interactive paging and communications solutions services. Incumbent Barkley Evergreen & Partners, Kansas City, Mo., resigned the account, effective Feb. 28, 1999. Western International Media handles all media buying.
Valentine-Radford Assigned ISP Account
CHICAGO–Valentine-Radford Advertising in Kansas City, Mo., was named agency of record for Internet service provider Safeconnect. The Kansas City-based company will tout its server-based filter that blocks pornography, adult chat rooms and hate group sites. Billings were estimated at $4-6 million.
3 Pitch Raytheon Despite Conflict Issues
BOSTON–Campbell-Ewald in Warren, Mich., joins Keiler & Co. and McCann-Erickson as finalists in the review for Raytheon Co.’s $15 million advertising account. Keiler in Farmington, Conn., handles jet maker Fairchild Dornier, and McCann, Los Angeles, works for Boeing’s McDonnell-Douglas unit, but those potential conflicts are not issues at this stage, said Skip Pile, the Boston-based consultant running the review.
SunAmerica Launches Agency Search
LOS ANGELES–Financial services company SunAmerica has placed its estimated $10-12 million account in review. The Los Angeles-based company has hired consultancy Select Resources International, also in Los Angeles, to conduct the search for a new shop. Incumbent shop Asher & Partners in Los Angeles will defend the business, an agency executive said
