Horizon Media Picks Up $50 Mil.

Horizon Media’s new-business fortunes were rosy on both coasts last week. The New York headquarters landed weight-loss marketer Nutri-System, while the Los Angeles office won media duties for steak-house chain Stuart Anderson’s Black Angus.

The combined billings are an estimated $50 million. The assignments were awarded following separate reviews.

Nutri-Systems’ media planning and buying ac-count is worth an estimated $40 million. The Philadelphia company suspended national advertising in 1998 when it closed its bricks-and-mortar centers to be an online marketer. It will resume advertising in December with a budget of $20-30 million, said Joann Bradley, the company’s vp of advertising. Horizon’s win also includes buying for the Sweet Success brand.

“Nutri-Systems is a well-known brand name repositioning itself,” said Horizon president and CEO Bill Koenigsberg. “The client needs immediate awareness and is very results-oriented.” Nutri-Systems’ last media shop was KSL Media, New York. That relationship ended in 1998 with the company’s move to cyberspace. Creative remains in-house.

Black Angus considered other West Coast shops before handing Horizon its estimated $10 million account. Initiative Media North America here was the incumbent.

Zuckerman Fernandez & Partners in San Francisco is the creative shop for the Los Altos, Calif.-based advertiser. Joe Pugliese
