Honolulu Incumbent Defends Kauai Tourism

LOS ANGELES At Friday afternoon’s 3 p.m. deadline, the Kauai Visitors Bureau had received seven responses to its June advertising request for proposal.

Contenders for the one-year, $500,000 contract include independent incumbent Starr Seigle Communications, Honolulu, which has held the account for five years. Other agencies have not been disclosed.

Kauai Visitors Bureau executive director Sue Kanoho said the majority of the media budget would be applied toward creative print work, although some Internet components are expected.

Kanoho said she plans on narrowing applicants to a shortlist by Aug. 4. The winning agency will be named after Aug. 31.

The Kauai Visitors Bureau received five RFPs for its $170,000-180,000 public relations account, currently handled by McNeil Wilson Communications, also based in Honolulu. One agency could win both assignments, Kanoho said, but each account required a discipline-specific pitch.
