HoJo Joins Bezos’ Hotel Portfolio

NEW YORK Bezos Nathanson Marketing Group this week picked up ad duties for Howard Johnson, making the chain its third Cendant-owned client, the agency said.

Following a monthlong review that included strategic and creative presentations, the seven-person agency bested Publicis Group’s Publicis in Mid America in Dallas, and DeVito Verdi and incumbent Christy, MacDougall, Mitchell, Bodden, both in New York, for the estimated $10 million account.

The newly appointed shop has handled ad duties for Cendant-owned Ramada hotels since July 2002 and for Travelodge since January 2003. The New York-based Cendent also owns the Days Inn, Super8, Wingate Inn, Villager Inn, AmeriHost Inn and Villager Inn lodging chains.

The first campaign, which will likely include TV and print, is expected to break early next year.

While creative has not yet been produced, shop president Mark Bezos said the work would continue to position Howard Johnson as family-friendly.

Media duties remain with MediaCom in New York.

Calls to the Parsippany, N.J.-based client were not immediately returned.
