With the U.S. in the midst of its longest stretch without job growth in 20 years, it’s no surprise that finding a job takes time. According to a recent New York Times Job Market survey of 200 job seekers, 60 percent spend an average of seven hours a week reading want ads and respond to about 69 job listings. Why only seven hours? “There are a finite number of listings to read,” says Job Market research director Jennifer Lacy.
