Veteran New York sports fans know the names of Ed Kranepool and Tommie Agee, members of the 1969 World Championship Mets baseball team.
Those fans will probably be able to sing the old Rheingold Extra Dry jingle in their sleep, even after 35 years. Hey, this was the team’s original beer sponsor.
Ferrell Calvillo Communications has created the new radio campaign that revives the jingle. Shop president John Ferrell worked on the Rheingold account in 1969 as a copywriter at Young & Rubicam.
Hearing the campaign will be like being in a time warp, Ferrell said Agee, Kranepool and the jingle are coming together today at Gallagher’s Steak House in New York to celebrate Rheingold’s return.
