Hours after last Thursday’s broadcast of The Apprentice that Shoptalk received an e-mail in which MPG Direct president and CEO Dick Wechsler rips Donny Deutsch for claiming, on the NBC reality show, that “no one reads direct mail.” In the e-mail, sent to the press by Hope Kaplan of PR shop Rubenstein, Wechsler calls Deutsch’s claim “a gross distortion of the facts.” He goes on to cite a study by the Direct Marketing Association that said 30 percent of revenues generated by media spending in all categories come from direct mail.
