G&M Plumbing Hires CMO

LOS ANGELES Independent agency G&M Plumbing has hired a former client, Randy Lopez, as a partner and chief marketing officer. He starts at the shop next month.

Lopez served as vp, marketing at the Del Taco chain in 2004, a brand the Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based shop handled from 2000-05. Lopez departed to become vp, national accounts at restaurant loyalty company Fishbowl Marketing, but kept in touch with G&M’s founders and co-creative directors Glenn Miller and Mickey Taylor.

“Randy provides a certain strategic leadership,” Miller said. “And coming from the client point of view, he gives us a keen perspective. He’s walked the walk. We feel that Randy is the right fit strategically and culturally.”

The job represents the first agency position for Lopez, who has also held marketing posts at Buppa di Beppo restaurants, TGI Friday’s and Arnold Palmer Golf.

“My previous experience as a client will give G&M a unique perspective,” he said. “I know what CMOs are dealing with. I understand their concerns. I can relate to the pressure they face. As a client, I would have loved working with an agency principal who’d walked in my shoes.”

Lopez will help G&M, perhaps best known for its Red Robin eatery campaigns, pitch new business both inside and outside the restaurant sector.
