Glaxo Eyes 3 for $150 Mil. Task

The $150 million media-only review for Glaxo-Wellcome’s business is down to three contenders, including buying incumbent The Media Edge, New York, sources confirmed last week.
The other two agencies in the running for planning and buying duties are Optimum Media, New York, and the Atlanta office of Western Initiative Media Worldwide.
Not making the cut are planning incumbent Wilson Media Group, New York, and creative shop Grey Advertising, also New York (pitching via MediaCom). Blueprint Communications in Atlanta is handling the review.
Glaxo will start visiting agencies this week; a decision is expected before the end of the month.
The client began its review last year [Adweek, Dec. 14, 1998], wanting to consolidate its business. Roster and non-roster shops were invited.
Officials with Glaxo declined to comment.
