Media Exec Joins Agency; Other Staffers Added for New Accounts
NEW YORK–Deutsch has hired Peter Gardiner, a media director and managing partner at Bozell, New York, as evp, director of media services, effective July 17.
He replaces Steve Soldano, who left in April. Gardiner reports to CEO Donny Deutsch, who said, “He’s a great leader and has a great media mind and is going to fit in here well.”
Deutsch added that he particularly admired Gardiner’s media-planning strategy for Bozell on the “Got Milk?” campaign.
In turn, Gardiner, 43, said of his new colleagues, “I fell in love with the senior team’s philosophy of integration. It’s a group who are all marching in the same direction.”
He added that his primary challenge at Deutsch will be to implement media integration throughout all agency disciplines, such as interactive, public relations and direct marketing.
“[And] we must compete and position ourselves successfully against the media behemoths that have a lot of clout,” Gardiner said.
The agency network has also hired 13 additional staffers to keep up with several new account wins this year. The hires bring the number of New York staffers to 550.
Liz Bratman, 44, formerly of Creative Media, joins Deutsch as senior vp, director of broadcast buying for network and local broadcast. She reports to Gardiner.
Jane Weiss and Elizabeth Freeman have joined the account management department. Weiss, 45, an account planner who recently left Young & Rubicam, New York, will manage Domino’s pizza and Zoloft. Freeman, 44, director of business strategy, will contribute to various accounts.
Additional hires include Michael DePirro as associate creative director; Tony Manuelli as treasurer; account directors Jonathan Silverstein, Cindy Thomsen, and Michael Weaver; and Robin Lander, 43, as director of human resources.
Deutsch’s Los Angeles and Boston offices have each hired an account director: Paige Gillingwater and Bill DeWitt, respectively.
DirectDeutsch’s New York and Los Angeles offices have each added a staffer: Jamie Adams, 44, joins as director of data strategy in New York, and in Los Angeles, Mark Dowis, 42, has been hired as director of client services.
Deutsch has added $225 million in billings this year with such account wins as Domino’s, Pfizer’s Zoloft, Business.com, The California Milk Advisory Board and Getconnected.com.
