Gabriner Steps Up at Carat Interactive

SAN FRANCISCO Toby Gabriner has been appointed president of Carat Interactive, the agency said Monday.

Carat said Gabriner, who had been chief operating officer, made significant changes to the agency during 2004, such as drawing the national offices closer, restructuring and leading Direct Broadcast, and bringing television, radio and interactive into alignment.

Gabriner, 33, also helped develop and launch two of Carat Interactive’s service lines, Internet development and performance marketing, which include affiliate and search engine marketing, an agency representative said.

Both the Internet development and performance marketing divisions grew 300 percent during the year, the rep said.

“In his role as COO, Toby has done much to move the agency forward,” said Sarah Fay, president of Isobar U.S., through which Carat reports to ultimate parent Aegis Group.

Prior to joining Carat Interactive, Gabriner was president of Freestyle Interactive, where he helped develop a client roster across multiple industries that included Miller, Microsoft, Toys R Us and Showtime. Carat bought Freestyle in May 2003.
