DULLES, Va. — Former New Line Cinema executive Robert Friedman has been named president of AOLTV, the interactive television unit of America Online, company officials announced Thursday.

Friedman had been co-chairman of New Line’s worldwide theatrical marketing division, and frequently used the Internet to promote films before they are released.

Friedman also worked at MTV Networks and helped with the development of The Movie Channel.

AOL launched AOLTV last year, before the company completed its merger with Time Warner.
