Freeman Unveils TV Spot for Quiznos

NEW YORK Quiznos broke a TV spot on Sunday featuring its Philly cheese steak sub, served on the fast-food chain’s signature toasted bread, the company said.

The 30-second commercial from New York shop Cliff Freeman and Partners shows two executives enjoying lunch on a ledge in front of an office building. Each is eating a sub, but only one is eating a Quiznos sub. He notices the other man’s “untoasted” bread and jokingly suggests that only someone raised by wolves would eat anything but a Quiznos sub.

“As a matter of fact,” the other man replies, “I was.” The scene cuts to a flashback in which a wolf is shown nursing her cubs, the executive included.

Quiznos is in the midst of an ad agency review that began in June. The client spent about $25 million in media in 2002, per TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

Contenders for the Denver-based client’s creative chores are Interpublic Group’s The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va.; independents Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., The Romann Group in New York and the incumbent, a client representative said.

For public relations Quiznos uses WPP Group’s Ogilvy & Mather PR in Denver. IPG’s Zipatoni in St. Louis handles in-store marketing. IPG’s Initiative Media is the incumbent and was invited to defend. Camelot Communications in Dallas and Media Head in New York are also competing for the media portion of the account, the client confirmed last month.

The review has been led by Brooksy Smith, a Quiznos executive vice president who has responsibility for both marketing and operations. Quiznos late on Monday said Boston Market executive Trey Hall has joined as its new chief marketing officer. Tom Ryan, McDonald’s former chief concept officer, joined last month to lead Quiznos’ product and concept development as executive vice president, branding.
