Football Leads to Soccer at Nasuti & Hinkle

ATLANTA Nasuti & Hinkle has added the Washington Freedom women’s professional soccer team to its client roster, the agency said.

The Washington, D.C., shop had kept tabs on the team for months, said shop creative director Woody Hinkle, who presented work created for the University of Maryland football team to the soccer franchise. N&H is the Freedom’s first agency.

The Freedom recently won the WUSA Founder Cup championship against the Atlanta Beat.

Hinkle said the shop had originally been hired to develop promotions for the 2004 season, but because the Women’s World Cup will be played in Washington this year, the team approved a “Five for Four” campaign to run during the championship.

According to Hinkle, women’s professional soccer draws 95 percent of its fan base from families. “Most of them bring their kids, plus a friend,” he said. When focus group participants told the agency they often buy extra tickets so their daughters could bring a friend to the game, the agency turned the insight into a promotion.

A television, print and e-mail campaign touting season ticket packages will run Sept. 12-Oct. 15. Spending was not disclosed.

Three Freedom players, Mia Hamm, Siri Mullinax and Abby Wombach, will play for the U.S. team in the Women’s World Cup games.
