FedEx Taps ‘Globe Trotters’

NEW YORK FedEx said today that it has signed five players from the National Basketball Association to promote its international shipping capabilities via a marketing campaign, “Go around the world with FedEx.”

The company’s “FedEx Global Leaders” are all players of foreign nationality: Andrei Kirilenko (Utah Jazz/Russia) and Manu Ginobili (San Antonio Spurs/Argentina), both of whom are new to the program; and three players who already have worked as FedEx reps: Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns/Canada), Tony Parker (San Antonio/France) and Peja Stojakovic (New Orleans Hornets/Serbia).

The players will be featured in domestic and global advertising, and also will be part of FedEx’s interactive participation during the NBA’s All-Star game week in February in Las Vegas. FedEx’s lead agency is Omnicom Group’s BBDO, New York.

As part of the effort, Memphis, Tenn.-based FedEx is giving fans the opportunity to win a free trip around the world via a new sweepstakes at The FedEx Global Leaders selected to participate in the NBA All-Star 2007 events will be joined by other NBA international stars to host basketball clinics for fans at the FedEx Global Village at the All-Star Jam Session in Vegas.

Opening night NBA rosters for the 2006-07 season featured a record 83 players from 37 different countries and territories, and 28 of the 30 NBA teams feature at least one foreign athlete.
