FastNet on Fast Track to 1st Shop

FastNet Corp., a Net-service provider, is seeking its first agency of record to handle an account estimated to be worth $10 million, sources said.
The client is searching for an agency that is experienced in guerrilla marketing.
Several agencies here have been approached by the Bethlehem, Pa., company. Sources said the list of contacts includes DeVito/Verdi, Cliff Freeman and Partners, Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Dweck!, Crispin Por-ter & Bogusky and Korey Kay & Partners. Another source said the review is in the final stage.
Joe Cusimano, marketing director at FastNet, is conducting the review; he could not be reached. The company was founded in 1994 by the brothers David Van Allen and Sonny Hunt. Allen previously worked as a manager at Tandy Corp. and Hunt was a programmer at Nexus. FastNet went on the market with an initial public offering Feb. 7.
FastNet offers a low-cost digital subscriber line that undercuts pro-vider fees charged by telecoms, such as Sprint and AT&T.
“These guys have the ability to walk into the market, install a box and offer the service for half the price,” said a source.
FastNet plans to offer its services to “small and medium-sized enterprises in selected high-growth secondary markets throughout the United States,” according to the company’s Web site.
