Fallon’s Folino Joins TBWA\C\D

TBWA\Chiat\Day has hired Michael Folino from Fallon as a creative director.

Folino most recently helped open Fallon’s Los Angeles outpost and served as creative director on its National Gulf War Resource Center account. Previously he worked at Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., for nearly four years, primarily on Nike.

“This is just a wonderful opportunity and a chance to be a creative director on some fantastic accounts,” Folino said. “I grew up in Los Angeles, and Chiat\Day has always had tremendous appeal.”

Trained as a copywriter, Folino becomes one of six creative directors at the Playa del Rey, Calif., agency. He will team with creative director/art director Jerry Gentile on Energizer, currently in review, and on the $100 million XM Satellite Radio account and the International Olympic Committee business. He will also have input on many other accounts, including Nissan, Infiniti and Apple, said executive creative director Rob Schwartz.

Folino will report to Schwartz, who was promoted from creative director earlier this year [Adweek, April 2] following the departure of Gary Topolewski for Doner in Southfield, Mich.

“Mike’s reel was tremendous,” said Schwartz. “I was blown away by what I saw on print and film and by Mike’s personality.” He added that Folino’s experience at Fallon’s fledgling L.A. office was a testament to his leadership skills.

Schwartz and Folino worked together several years ago at Team One Advertising. Chuck McBride, creative director of TBWA\C\D’s North American network, was familiar with Folino from their days together at Wieden.
