Fallon TV Spot Ties Mercury and Family Values

The late Harry Chapin’s ballad of missed parental opportunity, ‘Cat’s in the Cradle,’ is employed in a new TV spot from Fallon McElligott that suggests a Mercury Marine boat motor is a fine way to bring families together.

The 60-second spot aired on Father’s Day in five test markets, backed by newspaper and radio work. This is the Minneapolis agency’s first campaign for Brunswick Corp. since it was assigned the Mercury brand in February 1996. An expanded media buy for the spot is being considered.

The TV ad features a montage of childhood scenes, showing kids playing alone and with others. Adults are not shown until the final scene, as family is happily zipping across a body of water in a boat powered by a Mercury engine.–Trevor Jensen
