NEW YORK Euro RSCG has cut nearly 2 percent of its staff in New York, or roughly nine positions, the Havas agency acknowledged today.

The shop called the cuts a prudent business practice amid the economic downturn. “Any responsible agency is keeping a sharp eye on costs in this environment,” said an agency representative.

The office’s top clients include Reckitt Benckiser, Exxon Mobil, Jaguar, Charles Schwab and Kraft Foods.

Sources said the layoffs spanned several disciplines and included executive creative director Jeff Bitsack, a former JWT ecd who in July was hired along with Con Williamson to run Euro RSGG’s creative department here.
