Euro RSCG Hires Trend Watchers

Euro RSCG Worldwide has named trend consultants Ira Matathia and Marian Salzman to newly-created posts designed to foment fresh ideas and business strategies for clients.

Matathia, 51, becomes director of business development, Salzman, 42, global director of strategy and planning. They are assigned to the network’s New York headquarters, where they report to Bob Schmetterer, chairman and CEO.

“As we face the challenges associated with the end of traditional advertising,” Schmetterer said, “we require new capabilities that will allow us to move toward the implementation of creative business ideas: ideas that unite the forces of marketing communications and technology; ideas that go beyond advertising. Ira and Marian have clearly demonstrated their ability to drive this kind of creative thinking … to help us invent ‘the next thing.’ “

Most recently, the duo headed the Intelligence Factory, the Young & Rubicam trend-forecasting company that closed in December. Their partnership began in 1994 at Chiat\Day’s trend unit. When Chiat\Day and TBWA merged, the practice moved to Amsterdam under TBWA International.

Matathia joined Chiat\Day in 1984 and advanced to become president of its New York and Toronto offices. Salzman, who has created several marketing strategy boutiques, launched American Dialogue, now Cyber Dialogue, in 1992 with partners including Jay Chiat.
