Euro RSCG Hires Account Chief on Volvo

NEW YORK Havas’ Euro RSCG said it has hired Ian Marlowe as account director on its Volvo U.S. account, effective Nov. 14.

The Swedish carmaker spent $65 million in U.S. media last year, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus, and has spent $40 million through August of this year.

Euro RSCG has handled the account since 1991, when it landed the business as Messner Vetere Berger Carey Schmetterer. It runs the account from New York and Irvine, Calif., where Marlowe will be based.

Marlowe, 58, replaces Tony Taylor, who left the agency in September, and he reports to Euro’s Volvo global brand director Christopher Ross. Ross praised Marlowe’s experience in the category while he was at Boomerang Creative in Newport Beach, Calif., where he worked on Toyota, BMW and Volvo business and developed a working relationship with Volvo CEO Anne Belec.

Euro RSCG Worldwide CEO David Jones said in a statement: “Ian’s a first-class talent. I have no doubt that together we’ll be able to continue the great work we’ve done with Volvo and move towards accomplishing all of our goals.”

Belec called her relationship with Marlowe and Boomerang “a wonderful experience,” saying she was pleased he was joining Euro RSCG.

Before founding Boomerang, Marlowe was managing director of the Irvine office of WPP Group’s Young & Rubicam. During his career, he also has worked on Lincoln Mercury and Mazda.

Euro RSCG has 233 offices 75 countries. Its client roster includes Air France, Charles Schwab, Danone Group, Jaguar, LVMH Louis Vuitton, MCI, Polaroid, PSA Peugeot Citroen and Reckitt Benckiser.
