Greenville, S.C., Online Seller Stays in Town
ATLANTA–Erwin-Penland of Greenville, S.C., has been named agency of record for the new online retailer FurniturePoint.com.
Erwin-Penland will be responsible for the e-commerce company’s interactive marketing, advertising, media and collateral strategies.
Billings for this year are expected to amount to $5 million, according to the client’s chief executive officer, Michael West.
West said it was a priority for his Greenville company to hire a local agency. Sources said two other area shops, Woofgang (now known as Brains on Fire) and Kirkman Westlake & Bowman, pitched against Erwin-Penland.
“I put some feelers out to a few New York agencies, but felt more comfortable communicating with somebody who could be in my office in 15 minutes,” said West. “With Gretchen and Joe [Erwin] and Allen Bosworth, we were able to get New York experience without leaving Greenville.”
Agency president Joe Erwin and account services director Bosworth had previously worked together at D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in New York. Media director Gretchen Erwin was a media supervisor at Saatchi & Saatchi in New York.
FurniturePoint.com is in only its second month on the Internet, but has already been profiled in the USA Today nationally and in several major cities’ newspapers. West said the Web site was averaging more than 3,000 “unique visits” per day.
West said his company has also acquired domain names for other potential “Point.com” sites for future e-commerce opportunities.
