DuPont Consolidates at Ogilvy

NEW YORK Ogilvy & Mather on Thursday was selected by DuPont to handle its consolidated global advertising account, sources said.

The New York WPP Group agency beat out Interpublic Group’s Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago, and McCann-Erickson, New York, as well as Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi and WPP sibling Young & Rubicam, both also based in New York.

The client spent $70 million on ads last year, per TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

An Ogilvy representative referred questions to DuPont, and representatives of the Wilmington, Del.-based chemical giant declined comment.

The work had previously been split among several shops. Ogilvy had not been on DuPont’s roster.

When the pitch began four months ago, DuPont called the process an initiative to cut costs.
