DraftFCB ECD to Depart

NEW YORK Rodd Chant, evp, executive creative director at DraftFCB in New York, is leaving the agency at the end of the month.

It is unclear what Chant will do, although he told Campaign Brief, “I want to work in a small creative operation. I am staying here in the States. I love it over here.” He did not return calls for this story.

In a statement, DraftFCB said, “Rodd Chant…has decided to leave the agency at the end of the month so as to free himself up to pursue other creative opportunities, projects and ventures. We thank him for his contributions to the agency and wish him the best of luck.”

Chris Becker, New York chairman and CCO, will take over Chant’s duties in the interim. It is unclear if the agency will replace him.

Chant, a copywriter by trade, joined the Interpublic Group shop last year, prior to its merger with Draft when it was known as Foote Cone & Belding. He had been ecd at Publicis in Singapore. At DraftFCB, he worked on American Standard air conditioners, New York’s anti-gun campaign and Diet Coke.

Previously he worked at IPG’s McCann Erickson in Sydney, Australia, and at WPP’s Batey Singapore and Omnicom Group’s BBDO. He also founded the agency Born in Sydney.

Last week DraftFCB said it would cut 50 people from its New York office, though the company said Chant’s impending departure is unrelated. The cuts became necessary after the shop lost direct marketing duties on Verizon to McCann Worldgroup.
