Doner Poised to Win $25 Mil. Quaker State Business

NEW YORK Doner is in contact negotiations to handle creative duties on Quaker State motor oil, besting three other shops for the estimated $20-25 million account, sources said.

The other finalists were WPP Group’s J. Walter Thompson, Omnicom Group’s TBWA\Chiat\Day and incumbent The Tucker Partnership.

Doner, an independent based in Southfield, Mich., became the front-runner after a second round of presentations to the Houston client last week, said sources. The first round took place two weeks ago.

The other contenders work on sister brands for parent Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Cos. TBWA\C\D in Playa del Rey, Calif., handles Pennzoil, while JWT in Houston works on Shell.

Media duties, at Interpublic Group’s Initiative Media in New York, were not part of the review, which was managed by New York consultancy Roth Associates.

Roth did not return calls and the client and Doner could not immediately be reached.
