Cable TV Health Channel Readies Launch
BOSTON–Smash Advertising has been tapped by Discovery Networks for a national multimedia campaign to help launch cable TV channel Discovery Health and a companion Web site.
The Boston agency will handle creative chores for a television, radio, print and Web branding push set to make its debut in the next few weeks, according to Smash president Mark Tomizawa, who declined to discuss the campaign’s content in detail.
The Bethesda, Md.-based client is handling media duties in-house. The budget was not disclosed.
Smash was hired after a review of undisclosed shops that specialize in broadcast promotions, said Tomizawa. The client worked with Smash two years ago on the launch of its Travel Channel.
For Discovery Health, Smash was asked to “bring the brand together” by creating a seamless message for both the TV channel, which will debut nationwide on Aug. 2, and the Web site (www.discoveryhealth.com), which has been up and running for the past several weeks, said Tomizawa.
Online and broadcast programming covers various aspects of health, fitness, weight loss, nutrition, mental wellness and alternative medicine. The offering will compete mainly with Fox’s The Health Network, which recently tapped Kovel/Fuller, Los Angeles, to handle ads.
