Deutsch N.Y. Names CCO

NEW YORK Interpublic Group’s Deutsch has tapped Peter Nicholson, 38, an executive creative director at WPP Group’s JWT for the past two years, to lead its creative department here, the agency confirmed.

Nicholson replaces Kathy Delaney, co-president and CCO, who left Deutsch in December.

A Deutsch representative said Nicholson begins at the shop April 2.

Nicholson’s title is partner, chief creative officer for Deutsch’s New York operations.

At Deutsch, Nicholson will report to New York office president Val DiFebo, who said in a statement, “Peter is a creative magnet. His track record reflects a stellar body of creative work and he will play a strong leadership role in inspiring bold, integrated creative ideas.”

Deutsch is also looking for a top planner in New York to replace Jeffrey Wolf, who left at the time of Delaney’s departure.

Deutsch has a total of about 950 staffers in its New York and Marina del Rey, Calif., offices. Its New York client roster includes Ikea, Johnson & Johnson’s Tylenol, Olympus, Starwood’s Sheraton and Westin brands, Novartis and the Bronx Zoo.

In an internal staff memo, JWT New York co-presidents Rosemarie Ryan and Ty Montague wished Nicholson well. He was among Montague’s first hires after he became co-president and chief creative officer at the shop.

“Peter joined the agency in 2005 from Publicis and has given JWT his heart and soul since the day he joined, working tirelessly to improve both our creative product and reputation,” Ryan and Montague wrote. “We will be following his career with pride.”

At JWT, he worked on Cadbury, Diageo, JetBlue and Rolex.

Prior to JWT, Nicholson had held creative director posts at Publicis in Chicago and New York, where he worked on Procter & Gamble, L’Oreal, BMW, UBS and Heineken, among others.
