Deutsch Judges Candidates on ‘The Apprentice’

NEW YORK Fans of the NBC reality TV series The Apprentice get to see how the contestants did during their stint in advertising this week when they were assigned to create a TV spot and a print ad, the network said.

The teams had two days to come up with an idea to advertise the Marquis Jet Card, which provides access to the NetJets private fleet. Both teams presented their ideas to Donny Deutsch, chairman and CEO of Intepublic Group’s Deutsch, and two of his top executives.

The winners got a prize from Marquis Jet, and the losers had to explain themselves to the show’s host, Donald Trump.

In a statement, Deutsch said, “I’m thrilled that Donald Trump and [producer] Mark Burnett chose to showcase Deutsch Inc. in the second episode of The Apprentice. Utilizing all of our resources, each team delivered dynamic integrated campaigns and presentations that were drastically different but equally impressive. I was impressed with the charisma and smarts of the contestants, their tenacity and sheer desire to win was evident, making it an incredibly tense program.”

The episode will air on NBC on Thursday, Jan. 15, from 8:30-9:30 p.m. Eastern time.

Ken Austin, chief marketing and business development officer of Marquis Jet, said in a statement, “When the producers approached Marquis Jet, we were particularly excited to brainstorm and create this concept with them. Given the fact Marquis Jet does not have an ad agency, the task will be real life and applicable if the winning concept fits our brand image. The Marquis Jet Card has taken private aviation to new heights. Now, we are doing the same for free product placement.”

Deutsch is based in New York. The agency’s clients include Mitsubishi Motors North America, Revlon, DirecTV, Coors, Monster, Snapple, Novartis, Bank of America and MCI.

The Apprentice made its broadcast debut on Jan. 8.
