DealTime to Power Altavista Shopping Tools

DealTime, a provider of comparison-shopping search technology, has inked a strategic alliance with Web portal AltaVista. Under terms of the agreement, DealTime will replace AltaVista’s existing comparative shopping product with a new co-branded version of DealTime’s service. The new co-branded site is located at altavista.dealtime.com.

In addition to the co-branded service, AltaVista will transfer ownership of its Shopping.com domain to DealTime. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The pact with AltaVista marks the fourth agreement this year for DealTime with a major Web portal. Other portals outsourcing shopping search tools from DealTime include AOL, iWon and Terra Lycos.

For AltaVista, the partnership helps to reduce operating costs and to increase commerce revenue. For DealTime, the partnership brings more qualified shoppers to its network of hundreds of merchant partners.

DealTime is a multinational privately held company. Its strategic and financial partners include Bertelsmann, AOL Time Warner, Bank of America, Bain Capital, Nomura International and Singapore Telecom, among others.
