Omnicom’s DDB Chicago today confirmed that Ewan Paterson has been named chief creative officer, starting June 21, reporting to office CEO, president Rick Carpenter.
Paterson (pictured) had been with London’s CHI & Partners as ecd, managing partner, and he’s also worked for DDB in the U.K. and Bartle Bogle Hegarty, among others.
A copywriter by trade, he succeeds Paul Tilley, who committed suicide in February 2008.
“[Paterson] is an exceptional creative talent and a proven leader. Throughout his career he has continually demonstrated the ability to elevate the quality of the creative work to a world-class level,” said Carpenter, in a statement. “I am impressed with his approach to delivering idea-centered creative business solutions for clients and I am thrilled to have him lead our creative efforts.” Carpenter had overseen the creative department on an interim basis.
Added Paterson: “The agency has a client list to die for, great work in its DNA, and huge opportunities to create new and original work. There isn’t an agency I’d have left CHI London for but DDB.”
He will guide a department of more than 100 staffers at DDB Chicago, working for clients such as McDonald’s, Anheuser-Busch, AT&T, State Farm and Cars.com.
