DDB Appoints Hempel Managing Director

NEW YORK Peter Hempel has joined DDB’s office here as executive vice president, managing director, the Omnicom Group agency said on Wednesday.

In this new position, Hempel will be responsible for the agency’s account management group, and he will oversee the Philips account in North America. Hempel will also assist with new business.

Prior to joining DDB, Hempel was evp, global marketing at The Gap. In this role, he was responsible for the marketing, planning and deployment of the global Gap brand. From 1987-2001, Hempel was with Interpublic Group’s Lowe & Partners, where he served as general manager, overseeing account management. He launched his advertising career at DDB in 1983, working on Heinz Foods.

“Peter’s intelligence, insights and experience will be critical to the success of DDB New York in the coming years, and we’re thrilled to have him return to the place where he started: DDB,” said Lee Garfinkel, DDB’s New York chairman and chief creative officer, in a statement. “His ability to manage teams and brands will be a perfect complement to the leadership we’re putting into place.”
