NEW YORK The Cellular Telecom-
munications and Internet Association has contacted Omnicom Group’s BBDO, MDC Partners’ Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners, Interpublic Group’s McCann-Erickson and WPP Group’s Ogilvy & Mather about an upcoming ad campaign, sources said.

Kimberly Kuo, vice president of communications for CTIA, could not immediately be reached for comment. Earlier this week, she confirmed that CTIA has contacted shops, but stressed that no budget figure or timeline for an agency hire has been set. She also declined to identify the agencies [Adweek Online, Feb. 25].

Sources said CTIA plans to spend about $100 million on ads.

The shops, all in New York, either declined comment or could not be reached.

The Washington, D.C.-based industry group represents providers such as AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Nextel Communications, Sprint, T-Mobile and dozens of others. Key issues facing the wireless industry include regulation by the federal government and the taxation of wireless services.

Contacted shops that have cellular accounts were asked to clear their participation in the review with those clients before proceeding, sources said.
