From Crispin To Fallon And Back

Mark Taylor was an art director at Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami last fall when he received an offer to become co-creative director at Fallon, where he would help its new executive creative director, Paul Silburn, revamp the creative department.

“I wasn’t looking to leave,” Taylor, 32, said. “Paul contacted me, and I spoke with him because I respect his work.”

The two “hit it off immediately,” Taylor said. Silburn detailed his plan to restore the shop’s status as a creative powerhouse.

“I had an opportunity to take on a challenge and affect change at the highest level,” Taylor said. “It excited me and scared me at the same time.”

Taylor accepted the offer, joining the Minneapolis shop on Sept. 6, 2005. But he left in January after Silburn departed. On Feb. 27, Taylor returned to CP+B as an associate creative director.

He is reluctant to discuss his experience at Fallon beyond saying that he has no regrets about accepting the job. “It was something I needed to try,” he said. “It was a fun challenge, and I wish them all the best.”

Before he left, Taylor was part of the CP+B team that created for Burger King. He worked on Ikea, including the “Lamp” spot that won a film Grand Prix at Cannes in 2003, and the Mini Cooper launch campaign. He also contributed to the Whopperettes Burger King ad that aired during this year’s Super Bowl.

Since returning to CP+B, he’s been working on the Burger King and Sprite accounts, and he expects to contribute to the Volkswagen campaign, he said.

A graduate of Utah State University with a bachelor’s in advertising design, Taylor began his career at Foote Cone & Belding in New York before moving to San Francisco in 1999 to work at the former Odiorne Wilde Narraway + Partners. He worked at CP+B for five years before joining Fallon, and now plans to move to Boulder, Colo., in June when the agency opens an office there.

“I feel at peace with everything,” he said. “I’m excited to be part of Crispin again.”
