Cox Leading Empower’s Entry to S.F.

Empower MediaMarketing is expanding its West Coast presence with the addition of a San Francisco office, headed by a veteran Bay Area media director.
The Cincinnati-based firm has tapped Judith Cox as managing director in San Francisco, according to Tim Hahnke, Empower’s executive vice president and partner.
Cox previously served as vice president and media director for San Francisco’s Gardner, Geary, Coll & Young. The agency tripled its billings during Cox’s 10 years there.
“I was so impressed with Empower,” said Cox, who has already opened the new office on California Street. “Having worked for full-service agencies my entire career, it was time to get involved with a company that empowers media.”
Before GGC&Y, Cox held senior strategic media planning positions at McCann-Erickson and Foote, Cone & Belding’s San Francisco offices. Her primary focus was packaged goods accounts.
Empower, which also has offices in San Diego, Chicago and Birmingham, Ala., opened the San Francisco outpost “to develop, build and service new clientele,” said Cox. “E-commerce is obviously a target, although not to exclude other clients,” she said. “We’re ripe for what’s happening in the industry right now.”
The San Francisco office will announce its first client this week, said Hahnke. He would not disclose details at press time.
Empower has billings of over $625 million. Its clients include Andrew Jergens, C&H, California Federal Bank, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Hollywood Video, Honeywell Consumer Products, Janus Funds, Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays and StarKist Seafood.
