Continuing Concerns

Inflation fears continued to weigh on the markets, amid signs that the economy was moving along. A better-than-expected job report for March showed the economy added 211,000 jobs, for an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent. After making gains throughout the week, the Dow fell back Friday, finishing the week roughly where it began. The Dow gained only 7.04 points to close at 11,120.04. The Nasdaq finished lower, dropping 13.22 points to close at 2,339.02, a 0.6 percent drop. Ad stocks finished mixed. Omnicom gained 1.81 points for the week, closing at 85.07, up 2.2 percent. WPP Group, however, dropped 1.7 percent, closing at 58.57, down 1.03 points. Interpublic Group also finished the week lower, dropping 0.26 points, closing at 9.46, off 2.7 percent. Publicis Groupe finished slightly higher, gaining 0.11 points for the week to close at 38.71, up 0.3 percent.
