‘Conexion’ Works to Get Out the Vote

DALLAS Creative Civilization has launched a two-phase voter registration campaign for Conexion, the weekly bilingual publication of the San Antonio Express-News, the agency said.

The San Antonio shop’s first phase of Voto ’04 broke last week with a press conference at Express-News headquarters. Encouraging voting among local citizens, 100,000 Spanish and English voter registration cards were inserted into the Sept. 2 issue of Conexion. An additional 100,000 cards are slated to run in the Sept. 9 issue.

Following distribution of the registration cards, the newspaper will launch the campaign’s second phase, a four-week push that will include a logo, in-paper ads and newspaper rack cards, the agency said.

Conexion will also provide readers with detailed voter guides that will include complete lists of polling locations, profiles on all national, local and area candidates, and editorial features that detail how this election year affects the citizens of San Antonio.

Launched in May, Conexion offers news, sports and entertainment articles to the estimated one million Hispanics living in the San Antonio area. Distributed every Thursday, the Hispanic editorial staff chooses the English-Spanish content, which is approximately 60-70 percent English.

An agency representative estimated campaign spending in the low six figures. The San Antonio Express-News has been a client of Creative Civilization for the last three years.
