Colorado Ski Resort Heads East for Ads

NEW YORK Grey Global Group’s Grey Worldwide said it has landed creative duties on Colorado’s Beaver Creek Resort, following a pitch in which it competed against independent Wieden + Kennedy and Omnicom Group’s TBWA\Chiat\Day.

Grey’s Sticky Grey “village” in New York will handle creative and its MediaCom sibling will handle media. In addition to Wieden in Portland, and TBWA\C\D in San Francisco, Grey bested independent The Richards Group in Dallas and HL2 in Seattle.

The Avon, Colo., client, a division of Vail Resorts, spent $400,000 on advertising in 2003, according to TNS/CMR. Ad spending information was not available for January through October 2004, and a current media budget was not disclosed.

The first work is expected to break in print in the spring.

Sticky Grey evp, managing partner David Freilicher said in a statement, “This was a creative win, pure and simple— and nothing feels better than that. We look forward to producing a top-ranked creative advertising campaign that will make our newest client proud.”

Client COO John Garnsey said in a statement, “This exciting partnership will certainly help increase awareness of Beaver Creek as a luxury and adventure-laden winter and summer destination.”
