Cohan in Search Role at Roth Associates

NEW YORK Roth Associates said it has hired Cathy Cohan, a consultant who has held new business development posts at the Atlanta offices of BBDO and JWT.

Cohan joins as an executive vice president, charged with managing agency searches for clients and helping to negotiate client-agency contracts, said Dick Roth, president of the New York consultancy.

Since July 2003, Cohan has run her own consultancy, Marketing Mainstay, which provided marketing support for clients. Before that, Cohan spent four years at Omnicom Group’s BBDO in Atlanta, where she was chief marketing officer. During that period, the office teamed with BBDO in New York to win the Cingular Wireless account.

Before BBDO, Cohan was director of business development at WPP Group’s JWT in Atlanta, where she spent seven years. Early in her career, Cohan held account posts at New York shops such as Scali, McCabe, Sloves and TBWA.

“Because she has been on the receiving end of so many reviews as a new business person, certainly she is highly knowledgeable” of the process, said Roth. He added that his firm is “bilingual, speaking both ‘advertiser’ and ‘agency’ and Cathy is truly a linguist in this space.”

Cohan, who started this week, described her new job as a “logical extension of what I’ve done, which is to provide the best range of services and good counsel” to both marketers and agencies.
