cochran on guns

Many think Johnnie Cochran helped O.J. Simpson get away with murder, but the criminal defense attorney takes a tough stance against at least one crime in a TV, radio and outdoor campaign for Operation Ceasefire from Laughlin/Constable in Milwaukee.
Operation Ceasefire is a law enforcement effort to get convicted felons caught with guns prosecuted under a federal law that gives them a stiff prison term. In TV spots, Cochran acknowledges there’s a lot of reasons that accused criminals can be legally salvaged–but that if they’re caught with a gun, there’s not much even he can do.
L/C enlisted U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wisc., to call Cochran’s office and pitch the ad plan, said Paul Barthelemy, an account supervisor. “We wanted something very big, very impactful,” Barthelemy said. “It needed to be real and something felons could really take notice of and say, ‘Whoa, this is serious.'”
