OAKLAND – Clorox Co. last week announced a previously anticipated shifting of agency assignments that means a significant boost in business to Foote Cone & Belding and Young & Rubicam, both of San Francisco. The changes follow Clorox’s decision to drop DDB Needham/Chicago after that agency acquired new business from Clorox competitor S.C. Johnson. FCB picks up Soft Scrub and Clorox Clean-Up from DDB as well as the $8.7 million Pine-Sol business from Y&R. Ad spending in 1992 on all of those products totaled $23.2 million according to Leading National Advertisers. Y&R picks up Combat Insect Control Systems, Kingsford Charcoal, Match Light instant lighting charcoal briquets and Liquid-Plumr. Ad spending on those products totaled $20.1 million in 1992 according to LNA.
