Citizens Shifts From MPG to MediaCom

NEW YORK Citizens Bank is shifting its media chores from Havas’ MPG to WPP Group’s MediaCom without a review, the client has confirmed.

MediaCom handles buying and planning for Citizens’ parent company, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and the move was initiated based on “economies of scale,” a client representative said. MPG will continue working on the account through March 14.

Boston-based Arnold, also owned by Havas, remains Citizens’ lead creative shop. The agency’s efforts have long cast Citizens as “Not your typical bank” in generally lighthearted ads.

The bank spent slightly less than $10 million in measured media through the first 10 months of 2007, after spending $18 million during all of 2006, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
