Cingular Twist: Don’t Use Our Product

It’s not often that a marketer makes a special effort to tell you not to use their product, but Cingular Wireless is doing just that in a partnership with Loews Ciniplex Entertainment.

In the name of politeness, Cingular will launch a 15-second onscreen movie trailer and is adding “Courtesy Zones” in 100 of Loews’ 160 theaters to get theatergoers to avoid chatting or letting their wireless phones ring during movies. The program also includes “Be sensible” messaging on ticket stubs and an onscreen pre-movie slide.

In addition, Leonard Maltin, resident film critic for Entertainment Tonight, will be a spokesman for the program.
