Chicago Cubs Call on FCB

CHICAGO The Chicago Cubs have awarded their $1 million advertising account to Interpublic Group’s Foote Cone & Belding without a review, according to the agency.

The shop’s Chicago office will handle all aspects of advertising for the National League team. A campaign is expected before the Major League Baseball season begins this spring.

“FCB will be a great addition to our roster,” said John F. McDonough, senior vice president of marketing and broadcasting for the Cubs, in a statement. “They are a very prestigious agency with a worldwide reputation for effective advertising.”

The team’s incumbent agency was independent Chicago Creative Partnership. An FCB representative said there was no review for the account.

Account billings were not disclosed. The Cubs, which are owned by the Tribune Co., spent $1 million on advertising last year, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
