Fogarty’s Experience With Houston Seller Paves the Way Into L.A. Cellular’s Review
DALLAS–A longtime relationship with an affiliated company has earned Fogarty Klein & Partners in Houston a chance to compete for the $20 million account of L.A. Cellular.
Agency principal Rich Klein confirmed his shop was among those contacted by Select Resources International (SRI), the Los Angeles consultancy overseeing the review.
Incumbent BBDO West in Los Angeles declined to defend the account, which includes creative and media duties. Other shops contacted by SRI include McCann-Erickson, Los An-geles and San Francisco; Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco; Team One Advertising, El Segundo, Calif.; and DDB Needham, Los Angeles. Fogarty Klein has been agency of record for a sister company–Houston Cellular–since 1985. Klein said Houston Cellular and L.A. Cellular share the same parents: AT&T Wireless Services and Bell South Cellular Corp.
“We’ve had one of the longest relationships with a major cellular company,” Klein said of the 13-year run with Houston Cellular, adding, “The chance to work with L.A. Cellular is a great opportunity for this agency.”
Houston Cellular, which operates 38 retail stores in the Houston area, spends about $6 million annually on advertising. BBDO has had the L.A. Cellular account for nearly two years. It created an award-winning campaign that emphasized the client’s promise to reduce the number of lost words in cell phone conversations.–with An-gela Dawson and Michael McCarthy
