CASH AND COMMERCIALS

There are few places one can go without seeing ads anymore. And if a new program by Electronic Data Systems succeeds, there will be one less.
The Plano, Texas-based computer services company last week launched a pilot program that would place full-motion video advertising on 165 ATMs in San Diego-area 7-Eleven stores.
While a customer is in the “Please Wait” stage of his or her transaction, a 15-second spot will appear promoting in-store items, entertainment or cars, among other products.
EDS said the program will run through next March. So far, initial advertising has included spots for Fox Searchlight Pictures’ The Ice Storm and The Full Monty, as well as Nissan Corp.-sponsored vignettes for San Diego-area Nissan car dealers.
The ads are only part of the marketing ideas EDS is considering for store-site ATMs. The company said it is also investigating ATM-issued coupons and direct marketing efforts aimed at specific cardholders. –Glen Fest
