Cannes Festival Forms Lions Academy

NEW YORK The Cannes International Advertising Festival has established an annual Lions Academy as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.

Twenty to 30 students ages 18-23 will be selected to attend a weeklong series of tutorials and seminars on advertising. This year’s tutor will be Clive Challis, head of the advertising course at Central Saint Martins in London.

A dean, nominated every three years, will oversee the academy. Michael Conrad, formerly worldwide chief creative officer of Leo Burnett, will serve as the first dean.

This year’s tutorials, which will take place during the festival week, June 15-21, will be taught by Bob Isherwood, worldwide creative director of Saatchi & Saatchi; Joel Sobelson, executive vice president and chief creative officer of Wunderman in New York; and James Warburton, managing director of Universal McCann in Australia.
