Cannes Adds Categories, Components

NEW YORK The International Advertising Festival is introducing several changes into next year’s competition in Cannes.

A new awards category has been created: the Promo Lions will honor creative excellence in sales promotion, which includes retail marketing, environmental design and in-store advertising and media.

In addition, the Outdoor & Press category will be separated and a distinct jury and president will judge outdoor only. The Film and Press categories will have one jury president to preside over both categories.

For the first time, a Media Agency of the Year, winner of the most Media Lions, will be recognized. Also in the media category, rather than just awarding Media Lions, separate gold, silver and bronze awards will be presented.

Two categories will be added to the film, print and outdoor awards. The household section will separate into household cleaning and household other, and the toiletries and pharmaceuticals category will become two groups: toiletries and over-the-counter pharmacy.

Also, a film component will be added to the Young Creatives print and cyber competition. And 10 half-day workshops will be added to the seminar schedule during the festival.

The 53rd International Advertising Festival will take place in Cannes, France, June 18-24, 2006.
