Canadian film and TV producers Wednesday opposed an effort by U.S. TV networks to stop webcast upstart JumpTV.com from retransmitting TV signals to Canadian consumers via the Internet.

The move comes as U.S. and Canadian broadcasters are taking sides in an upcoming regulatory battle over how current Canadian copyright rules will deal with Internet retransmissions of Canadian and international TV signals.

The Canadian Film and Television Production Assn., which represents major Canadian film and TV producers on regulatory issues, said JumpTV.com
